TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of Jakarta Legislative Council's (DPRD) Commission E, Ramly HI Muhammad, suggested the race for electric-powered cars Formula E be conducted in Thousand Islands or Kepulauan Seribu for the sake of equitable development and promotion of marine tourism potential.
“We have gorgeous Thousand Islands, but the government is not serious to develop it yet. [We can] build bridges connecting the islands for the tracks,” said Ramly to Tempo in Jakarta, Wednesday, July 17.
He explained Kepulauan Seribu is worthy to host a prestigious event, including the street race since the region has supporting potential natural resources. “So, people not only can watch Formula E but also travel,” he added.
The Golkar Party politician said the event establishment in the islands can boost the economy of the community and the regional administration. “It's such a pity that Thousand Islands often considered as an underdeveloped region of Jakarta.”
Previously, Jakarta provincial administration said it had proposed two tracks for the street race that is scheduled to kick off in 2020. Both tracks are located in Central Jakarta.
