TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Garuda Indonesia calls for passengers to not taking pictures or video or documenting activity in the cabin during the flight.
The state airline’s Vice President Corporate Secretary M. Ikhsan Rosan said the appeal was made to respect the privacy of other passengers and cabin crew on duty.
“This aimed to ensure all flight operations of Garuda comply with the prevailing regulations and laws, including Law on Aviation and ITE,” he said in a written statement, Tuesday, July 16.
Ikhsan mentioned the similar call had been issued during a flight on July 14, and so the corporate polished the circular.
Passengers, he added, could still get photographs for personal interest such as taking a selfie as long as it did not bother other passengers.
According to the Garuda official, the appeal was issued based on report, suggestions, and recommendations delivered by passengers who felt uncomfortable and disturbed by the documentation without permission from concerned people.
Ikhsan asserted this is Garuda Indonesia's commitment to abide by the existing law to protect all passengers’ rights on convenience and privacy in the flight cabin.
Previously, a travel vlogger Rius Vernandes posted a photo of handwritten menu card of the flag carrier’s business class on his Instagram account @rius.vernandes on Saturday, July 13.
He wrote a caption that the flight attendant distributed the menu on a piece of paper as the printed-out one was still on the printing process. The post went viral on social media and triggered public criticism against Garuda Indonesia.
On Tuesday afternoon, Rius posted a photo of the police summon letter for him and his fiancee over an alleged defamation. “I really ask your support. All of you. Anyone. You all have a voice. Especially fellow influencers. I hope you all can help share and support me in this problem because I don’t want, in the future, when we review something as is and give constructive criticism, we can be criminalized,” Rius noted on his Instagram account.
