TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party's Communication Division member Andre Rosiade said the party's chief patron, Prabowo Subianto, would clarify his Saturday meeting with president-elect Joko Widodo or Jokowi. Andre believed supporters’ disappointment over the meeting would be eased by the explanation.
“Pak Prabowo will later meet figures (of the Adil Makmur coalition) and also volunteers and supporters to explain the meeting results of him and Pak Jokowi,” Andre told Tempo, Monday, July 15.
According to Andre, the meeting of the two leaders had been discussed since the meeting concerning the coalition dismissal held on June 28, 2019. At that time, Prabowo announced the planned meeting to supporters, volunteers, and coalition. Besides, he had sent letters to figures of the coalition parties a day before the meeting.
“Pak Prabowo had delivered letters to PKS, Pak Amien, Pak Sohibul, Pak Salim Segaf, and others to inform them that the meeting would take place in one to two next days,” Andre said.
He added that the emergence of pros and cons from the supporters regarding a decision was a common issue. However, he is optimistic that the supporters will come around after the former commandant-general of the special forces gave a clarification that the meeting was held as Prabowo’s wish for reconciliation, as opposed to a transactional meeting.
“Just believe that as the time goes by, they will understand and know why Prabowo decided to meet Jokowi. Once again, this is a national meeting, not a political trade meeting,” Andre asserted.
