TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla responded positively to the recent meeting between president-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and former presidential election rival Prabowo Subianto on Saturday, July 13.
“The meeting between Mr. President and Prabowo on Saturday has helped bring peace to the nation’s political realm,” said VP Jusuf Kalla today.
The urge for the meeting of both figures had been voiced since the elections commissions (KPU) announced the vote recapitulation of 2019 presidential election in May. Jusuf Kalla had even in several occasions taken the role as the broker between the two men.
“We must respect their magnanimity to unite in the name of the nation,” said the VP in a speech in front of young officer candidates (Capaja), Indonesian National Police (Polri).
During this occasion, Jusuf Kalla urged the candidates to equally take the role in maintaining Indonesia’s peace.
