TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - AirAsia Group is set to introduce 15 new Airbus A320s for the Indonesian market within the next three years. The carrier’s Deputy CEO Bo Lingam said AirAsia Indonesia will see 5 new aircrafts each year which will serve existing or new domestic flights.
“We will discuss which domestic routes we will launch in the coming years,” said Lingam in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, July 14.
Early in June, one Airbus A320-200 was introduced by the carrier to support the services of the Lombok Airport hub and maintains that it is out the five new aircrafts allocated for the Indonesian market.
He suggests that two more aircraft will be delivered gradually in September and the remaining two for 2019 will be delivered before year’s end. Currently, AirAsia Indonesia is operating 25 Airbus A320-200.
This further emphasizes the carrier’s business model, which is to operate what they refer to as a “single-type operations“ for its aircraft.
During the same occasion, Head of Communication AirAsia Group Audrey P. Petriny mentioned the carrier’s domestic market share in 2019’s first quarter that reached 3.2 percent, which is a steady improvement since 2017 that saw them take 2.2 percent of the domestic flight market share.
