Ternate Got Hit Again by Earthquake; No Tsunami Potential

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ternate City, North Maluku has again got strucked by 5.7-magnitude earthquake at 01:52 Western Indonesian Time (WIB), Tuesday, July 9.
The quake epicenter was located in 0.41 degrees north latitude and 126.3 degrees east longitude and did not trigger a tsunami, as Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced.
Previously on Sunday, July 7, a 7.0 magnitude quake hit the city, followed by 47 aftershocks per Monday at 12:45 WIB. “The magnitude ranges from 3.1 to 4.9,” said the BMKG’s Earthquake and Tsunami Center head Rahmat Triyono in a written statement, Monday.
The tectonic earthquake occurred at 0.53 degrees north latitude and 126.18 degrees east longitude or 133 kilometers west of Ternate at a depth of 49 kilometers.
The tremor was felt in Bitung and Manado at IV-V MMI level and in Ternate at III-IV MMI level.
