Rescued Sumatran Tiger `Rio` Dies over Health Complications

4 July 2019 11:20 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Sumatran Tiger named “Inung Rio” died at the Dharmasraya Sumatra Tiger Rehabilitation Center (PR-HSD) in West Sumatra after Rio was first admitted on April 15, 2019.

According to hospital management, Arsari Djojohadikusumo Foundation, Rio consequently died because of health complications.

“Inung Rio the tiger died because of medical complications Rio suffered prior to being admitted to the hospital’s rehab center,” said Catrini Pratihari Kubontubuh, Arsari Djojohadikusumo Foundation executive director on Wednesday, July 3.

The Sumatran tiger met his unfortunate fate after being caught in a tiger trap at the Riau Ecosystem Restoration (RER) managed by PT Gemilang Cipta Nusantara (GCN) located at Sangar Village, Pelalawan District in Riau back in March.

The 2-4 years old male tiger was severely injured in his front left leg after stepping on a steel sling trap. Inung Rio managed to endure his complications at the PR-HSD for 20 days.
