VP Jusuf Kalla: Economy, Politics Remain Govt's Task

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said that issues on economy and politics remain the government’s homework in the remaining 3.5 months of Jokowi - Kalla administration period. The VP hoped the two issued could be resolved within the time.
“Particularly the economic problem that many of it must be completed, either at present or in the future,” said Kalla when met at his office, Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, July 2.
The most noted task was the current account deficit that still haunted Indonesia, especially in the oil and gas sector. Besides, the government had a duty to boost investment and exports.
“Those are not an easy task during this current condition of the global economy; lowering the deficit,” Kalla said.
In addition to issues on the economy, the politics must be concerned as well. After the heated general elections, the public remained parted, and the situation was still heating up. “[and] on how to create peaceful and well politics in our surroundings,” he added.
The administration period of Jokowi - Jusuf Kalla would end in October 2019. The General Election Commission (KPU) had again tapped Jokowi as the president-elect who would be accompanied by Ma’ruf Amin as the vice president.
