TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo hoped that the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping at the G20 Summit on Saturday, June 29, will result in a breakthrough and benefit the global economy.
"The president hopes that tomorrow's meeting will have a way out, and there is a significant breakthrough," said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, when explaining the events of the first day of the G20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, Friday, June 28.
Jokowi conveyed the hope during a bilateral meeting between Indonesia and China on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs said.
The trade war issue between the United States and China is one of the issues discussed between Joko Widodo and his cabinet at a limited meeting held before the G20 Summit in Osaka.
In addition, Widodo and Xi, also discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries at the meeting. They discussed the matter of future efforts to reduce the trade deficit between Indonesia and China.
Xi Jinping said that he would again be holding the China International Import Expo (CIIE) this year, and expected Indonesia's participation. Last year, Indonesia participated in the largest trade exhibition in China, Minister Retno said.
