Jakarta Wins Transport Award; Observer: Result of Past Works

28 June 2019 12:56 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaAn observer from the Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI), Djoko Setijowarno, opined the achievement of Jakarta in the transportation sector is the result of the previous administration’s works.

According to Djoko, the improvement on the city’s transportation system was started since the replacement of governor from Fauzi Bowo to Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“This achievement is the result of past works done by several parties and institutions,” said Djoko in a written statement, Friday, June 28.

The Sustainable Transport Award (STA) named Jakarta as one of the world’s top three cities that improves its transportation system and city mobility. City Governor Anies Baswedan posted the information on his Instagram account yesterday.

Djoko mentioned previous governors had started to develop public transportation, such as Transjakarta. In 2012, the city’s bus only had six corridors and increased to 39 corridors in 2014. Three years later, the number rose to 80 corridors including 10 pre-routes for Jak Lingko.

In addition, the central government played a significant role. The commuter line service, for example, had been developed since 2014. Even now it has a route to Rangkasbitung and Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java.

“So Railway Directorate General also makes a contribution,” he said, adding that the Greater Jakarta Transportation Agency (BPTJ) was also established in a bid to improve the capital’s transportation system that in line with the issuance of Jakarta Transportation System Blueprint (RITJ).
