MRT Jakarta to Build Transit Plaza, a Drop-off and Pick-up Area

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Mass Rapid Transit or MRT Jakarta would provide a special area for vehicles to pick up and drop off passengers dubbed Transit Plaza. The corporate president director Willian Sabandar said the first transit plaza will be built near Lebak Bulus Station.
“Transit plaza is a zone for vehicles and online ojek dropping off and picking up passengers,” said William in a restaurant in Haji Nawi, South Jakarta, Wednesday, June 26.
The project was planned to start in July 2019. William said that the construction has been finished, except the skybridge connecting the shopping mall Poins Square and MRT station and transit plaza.
The skybridge or pedestrian bridge, that was part of transit-oriented development (TOD) program, aimed at providing easy access for passengers to the underground station and transit plaza. According to William, the construction of skybridge would be completed in the next 5 to 6 months.
Transit Plaza would be built in the 1,500-meter squares land belonged to Poins Square. Thus vehicles are expected not to pack roadsides near the station stairs.
As for online ojek, the pick-up and drop-off point would be located in front of Nehemia Church, near Lebak Bulus Fire Department.
“So we will set which area for online ojek, motorcycles or cars,” he said.
MRT Jakarta is a new transportation mode in the metropolitan. The train’s first phase has 13 stations with a 15.7-kilometer railway connecting Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta and HI Roundabout in Central Jakarta. PT MRT is currently constructing the second phase with a route of HI Roundabout-Kota.
