SBY still Fighting Grief over Ani Yudhoyono's Passing

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The sixth Indonesian president Susilo “SBY” Bambang Yudhoyono said that he is still grieving over the passing of his late-wife Ani Yudhoyono during today’s meeting with Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
Asked about the visit by his close friend, Yudhoyono was not keen to comment. “[There is] nothing [I need to deliver], I am still grieving,” he said with a quiet voice to journalists present at the meeting.
Ani Yudhoyono’s passing – after a long battle with blood cancer – earlier this month had left SBY in deep sorrow. The Democrat Party chairman was visibly in tears at the hospital where Ani was treated and the day of her funeral in South Jakarta’s Taman Makam Pahlawan Kalibata.
Despite the mental hardship he is still enduring, the former president appreciated the visit of his friend, who served as a vice president throughout the 2004-2009 administration.
SBY also mentioned that Ani and Jusuf Kalla’s wife, Mufidah Jusuf Kalla, was always involved in their activities that have helped elevate the nation.
“Both of our wives participated in many activities such as handicrafts and many other social activities,” said Yudhoyono who also recalled his tenure with Jusuf Kalla as great memories.
“We have great memories together. The both of us together fought for Indonesia,” he said.
