TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gamar Malamo Airport, Galela, North Halmahera, North Maluku is still closed temporarily following Mount Dukono eruption that spewing volcanic ash.
“Gamar Malamo Airport has yet to operate because volcanic ash from the mount is harmful to flight activity,” said the airport head, Ahmad Saifudin, in Ternate, Tuesday, June 25.
Saifudin said he did not know when the airport would be reopened considering the ash was still detected.
The mountain observation post head, Iwan Amat, said that the mountain still emitted volcanic ash as of Monday afternoon, at 15:45 Eastern Indonesian Time (WIT).
The smoke headed to the northern area (Luari Village, Mamuya, eastern area (Wari, Tobelo and its vicinity, UPA, and WKO), northeast (Ruko, Mede, Popilo, Gorua), and northwest (Galela/Soasio and its vicinity, Soakonora, Dokulamo/Gamar Malamo Galela airport) as high as 500 meters.
“Mount Dukono is in the alert status level II, so we (PVMBG) recommend no public activities within a radius of 2 kilometers from Malumpang Warirang Crater,” Iwan underlined.
