Tin Exports Ceased; Atomindo Wants Minister Regulation Evaluated

25 June 2019 09:27 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Mineral Sand Processing and Miners Association (Atomindo) said that the Energy Ministry's Regulation No.1806/2018 has weakened the tin industry. The association said the bill has requirements that are difficult to meet.

As a result, tin smelters are unable to operate.

"The rule mandates validation from a Competent Person that refers to the Indonesian Mineral Reserves Committee (KCMI). The problem is, there is a very limited number of Competent Persons in Indonesia,"

Atomindo chairman Darmansyah told reports in Pangkalpinang, Monday, June 24.

Darmansyah said the difficulties in finding a Competent Person has stagnated the tin smelting industry.

Since October, exporters had not been able to operate their business because they could not process the RKAB documents—which require validation from a Competent Person.

Atomindo is seeking to get the Competent Person requirement met, so that smelter companies can resume export activities before the end of 2019.
