TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan seemed unworried about the polemic on the 2019 students enrollment process (PPDB) through the school zoning system that removing the favoritism status of schools.
Anies stated that Jakarta focused on improving the school quality to be equal so there would be no favorite school.
“Improving the quality of all schools, that’s what we’re doing,” said Anies in Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) building, Central Jakarta, Monday, June 24.

He explained that Jakarta provincial administration was eyeing to enhance the quality of education in all schools, instead of PPDB system. The quality improvement of education in the capital could be started by improving the quality of all schools. Thus parents would be assured of their children’s education regardless of their school.
“The most important thing for me is that school quality must be developed, whatever the enrollment system applied,” Anies Baswedan noted.
The 2019 PPDB via the online school zoning system for senior high (SMA) in Jakarta Province has been started on Monday, June 24, 2019, at 08:00 WIB, and will end on Wednesday, June 26, at 14:00 WIB. The school zoning system requires new students to enroll in a school based on their domicile, rather than the score of the junior high national exam (UN SMP).
