Moeldoko on 212 Group Rally: Let Society Live Peacefully

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko advised the 212 group not to stage any rally in response to the upcoming announcement of a ruling by the Constitutional Court (MK) on the trial of the 2019 presidential election dispute.

“Don’t do that, what else do you want? The public wants peace. Don’t disturb people’s activities. Moreover, the legal proceedings are ongoing, just wait [for the results],” said Moeldoko at the Presidential Palace Complex today.

The former TNI chief stressed that the MK could not in any way be pressured by any group or individual. Thus, Moeldoko called on the 212 group to respect the law by scrapping the plan and let society live peacefully.

The 212 group’s planned mass rally to respond to the Constitutional Court’s verdict has been confirmed by spokesman Novel Bamukmin, who said it aimed at pressuring the court to disqualify presidential and vice-presidential candidates Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Ma’ruf Amin from the presidential election race.

Novel claimed the group only demanded MK’s panel of judges act fairly and independently.

“The group’s demand is for the MK judges to act fairly and not be afraid of any type of intervention in disqualifying Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin,” said Novel Bamukmin.

Novel also said the 212 group would not be the only one staging a rally at the MK building, as there would be following rallies on June 24, 25, 27 and 28 by other groups.
