Transjakarta Electric Bus Yet to Operate, Lacking Regulation

24 June 2019 11:57 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Transjakarta president director Agung Wicaksono said that three electric buses are ready to operate in Jakarta. However, the operation was constrained by the lack of a Presidential Regulation (Perpres).

“The challenge is how to get regulation support in the form of a permit from Transportation Ministry and vehicle registration (STNK) that should be issued by the police with support from Home Affairs Ministry,” said Agung after a conference press in Bakul Koffie, Cikini, Central Jakarta, Sunday, June 23.

Agung explained electric vehicles require different regulation as it is a new mode that could not be accommodated by old perception and policy, and so it needs adjustments.

Jakarta Transportation Agency, he added, had issued a decree No. 120/2019 that allowed Transjakarta to run a trial test.

“So we lack a national-level regulation. We’ve heard that a draft of Presidential Decree is being formulated, we hope this will be a central government’s support for Jakarta administration to operate this electric bus,” Agung said.

He went on to say that his company had only run a trial test at around tourism areas, such as Monas in a bid to see the bus readiness. Agung claimed there was no doubt in the technical competency of his electric vehicles.

Additionally, Transjakarta awaited the issuance of STNK and type certificate–without both the bus could be operated.

“We have run a trial test, from Senayan to Monas, Ragunan to Kuningan. STNK has not been released and type certification as well,” he added.
