Jakarta 492nd Anniversary: Road Closure, Events Agenda

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In relation to the celebration of Jakarta 492nd anniversary, the city administration will hold a public event on Saturday, June 22, 2019. The theme adopted for this year's celebration is “Wajah Baru Jakarta” (The New Face of Jakarta).
Due to the event, road closure and traffic engineering will be applied along Jalan Sarinah until the Dukuh Atas area in Central Jakarta, starting on Friday, June 21, 2019.
"[We inform] all owners of office buildings and hotels along Jalan M.H. Thamrin until Bundaran Hotel Indonesia [Hotel Indonesia Roundabout]," said Chief of the Law Education and Enforcement of the Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate Comr. Muhammad Nasir in a written statement.
The road closure begins at 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, June 21, 2019, and will be resumed on Saturday, June 22, 2019, starting from 3:00 PM until midnight.
The city government has prepared a series of events to enliven the anniversary celebration with a concept of creative economy and art, said Governor Anies Baswedan. "Hopefully, this series of events will attract domestic and foreign tourists," Anies said in a written statement received by Tempo on Thursday, June 20, 2019.
According to Anies, the celebration event will display various local products made by Jakarta residents to support the city's economy.
The following is the list of the celebration agenda:
- Live Mural Jakarta Anniversary
This event has already started on June 17 and will last until June 21 at Jalan Kendal Tunnel, Central Jakarta. The public can see the mural art-making process along the north side of the tunnel from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM.
- Creative Bazaar and Charity
The second event will be established in Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, on June 22 until June 23, starting 10:00 AM until 6:30 PM. More than 60 producers will offer various creative products, such as clothes, ceramics, or culinary foods.
- The Peak Night Celebration
The peak night celebration will be held in Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI Roundabout) on June 22. The event is divided into three sessions; Jakarta Tempo Dulu, Jakarta Membangun, and Wajah Baru Jakarta. National entertainers to enliven the event include singer Pasha, rock band Kotak, singer Siti Badriah, and pop band Wali.
- Seribu Islands 'Indie Festival'
Apart from the central area of the capital, the anniversary celebration will also be held in Seribu Islands. The Seribu Islands 'Indie Festival' will take place on Tidung Island on June 22, 2019. The music festival will start at 3:30 PM until midnight. Visitors can enjoy food bazaar from local SMEs.
- Jakarnaval
On June 30, starting from 3:30 PM until 10:00 PM, the Jakarta Administrative Government will hold an art parade, showing cultural parade, modern parade, ornamental vehicles parade, and music performances as well.
- Jakarta International Photo Festival (JIPFest) 2019
The last event to celebrate Jakarta 492nd Anniversary will be the JIPFest 2019. The first international photo festival will adopt the theme 'Identity' and will take place in Taman Ismail Marzuki, Central Jakarta and several public spaces of the city from June 25 to July 9, 2019.
In addition to the above mentioned events, the capital will hosts a total of 13 programs, namely Exhibitions, Fringe, Workshops, Urban Photo Tour, VIP Dinner, Performances, Bazaar, Panel Discussions, Artist Talks, Public Lectures, Portfolio Review, Projection Nights, and Awards.
