TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of residential houses located at Tor Atas District have been severely affected by the magnitude 6.3 earthquake that hit the Regency of Sarmi, Papua, on Thursday 00:24 Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT) on June 20.
Reports of damaged houses remain incomplete and the exact location is yet to be determined, says Head of Papua's Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Robert Welliam Manderi to Antara in Jayapura on Thursday.
This incomplete field report, he said, is the reason why the local BPBD has yet reported the damages to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBN).
Meanwhile, Sarmi Police Chief AKBP Paul Izak Sakoli in a separate location said he received reports of damaged residential homes at Iswari Village located at Tor Atas District. However, he is yet able to confirm this.
“I received a report of three to eight houses that are damaged by the Thursday morning's quake. But to confirm that we must wait for the official report from the Tor Atas Police Sector Chief [which is delayed] because of the lack of communication infrastructure at the location,” said Paul Izak.
There has yet been any report of casualties.
