Coffee to Floor Mat Seller Pack MK Areas during Election Trial

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Not only protesters and personnel of Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police securing the second hearing of presidential election dispute, areas around Constitutional Court (MK) building on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta were also packed by traders attempting to earn a living.
Based on Tempo observation in the location this afternoon, June 18, traders in the area were selling floor mats, hats, mineral water, cigarettes, snacks such as Siomay or dumplings, quail eggs, peanuts, up to instant coffee drink.
One of the traders named Sofyan brought dozens of hats in his shoulder bag from Karawang, West Java. He offered baseball cap and bucket hat priced at Rp10,000 per piece. “The hat made of garment waste, so it’s cheap,” Sofyan told Tempo, adding that 20 hats had been sold since the morning.
Similar to Sofyan, Heri came from Karawang attempted to earn money by selling floor mat at Rp10,000 per piece. Tempo observed that many protestors sit in the mat sold by Heri and his friends in the roadside.
Hasyim, a seller from Tanah Abang Market, also deliberately visited the location, hoping to gain more buyers. He marketed cold mineral water carried in a cooler box placed on his cart. He set the price of mineral water at Rp10,000 per bottle.
The mass from the People's Sovereignty National Movement (GNKR) staged another rally to supervise the trial of election dispute at around Arjuna Wiwaha Horse Statue.
The police blocked entrance accesses to MK building by placing concrete barriers and barbed wire fence.
Tempo also noticed some protesters held a parade with two Batavian typical giant dolls ondel-ondel, accompanied with traditional music, Gambang Kromong.
