TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police announced they did not equip their personnel with firearms or lethal ammunition. They said police personnel were only armed with shields, tear gas, and water cannon vehicles while securing the Constitutional Court (MK) building.
“[The police members] are only equipped with shields, tear gas, and water cannon vehicles,” said National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo to journalists on Friday, June 14, 2019.
The MK is currently holding a trial on the 2019 presidential election dispute and is guarded by 33 thousand joint personnel from the military and the police.

Just one day prior to the trial, barbed wires and concrete separators were installed in the Court’s perimeter that is divided into four layers of security.
Dedi said police members would use soft approaches in facing potential protesters rallying in front of the MK building.
