TEMPO.CO, JakartaLion Air denied rumors that said the airline has Rp614 trillion debts as per the first half of 2019. The rumor began circulating not long after Lion ordered 800 units of aircraft from a number of manufacturers.

"Information that we have debts, debts potentials and becomes a liability to other parties is not true," Lion Air Group's Corporate Communications Strategic officer, Danang M. Prihantoro, said on Thursday, June 13, 2019.

Danang confirmed that the airline has ordered 800 airplanes, but ensured that they did not borrow money for that purpose. "The payment used a number of schemes," he said, adding that the procurement was without collateral, and is the carrier's own liability.

He said that 340 of the 800 purchased planes are operating, some overseas.

He stressed that Lion Air Group's finances are healthy, and the airline continues to expand its routes and businesses.
