KPU: VP Candidate Ma'ruf Amin Does Not Violate Election Law

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Election Commission (KPU) commissioner Hasyim Asy’ari asserted vice presidential candidate number 01 Ma'ruf Amin did not violate the election law related to his status as the chairman of the Sharia Supervisory Board of BNI Syariah and Mandiri Syariah.
He mentioned that Ma'ruf had a similar stance with a legislative candidate from Gerindra Mirah Sumirat who was an employee of a subsidiary of state-owned enterprises (SOE). Mirah initially did not meet the KPU requirement to participate in the election.
“Bawaslu then favors the appeal considering an employee of SOE subsidiary is different than SOE employee,” said Hasyim in a written statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, June 11.

According to Hasyim, the two sharia banks are subsidiaries of state-owned banks BNI and Bank Mandiri, respectively. “A subsidiary is different than SOE because the legal status and the financial state of SOE subsidiary is separated from SOE.”
Therefore, similar to Mirah Sumirat, Ma'ruf met the requirement to be a vice presidential candidate because he was neither SOE official nor an employee and that Bawaslu decision on Mirah Sumirat’s case could be used as a reference.
Earlier, the legal team of presidential-vice presidential candidate number 02 Prabowo - Sandiaga Uno visited Constitutional Court on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, Monday, June 10.
The team asked to revise their dispute claim over the election result or PHPU 2019 presidential election following their findings on the alleged violation committed by Ma'ruf Amin related to his position in the sharia banks.
