Mawar Team Former Commander Reporting Tempo to Press Council

11 June 2019 11:35 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Press Council is scheduled to receive a report from former commander of the Mawar Team, Maj. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Chairawan this afternoon, June 11. Chairawan plans to file a complain regarding Tempo Magazine's reports about the May 22 riots.

"[The report] is in our schedule," the Press Council's deputy chair Ahmad Djauhar said via text message, Tuesday.

Chairawan is reporting Tempo Magazine for allegedly publishing articles that are not factual and "cornering" the Mawar Team in regards to the May 21-22 riots in Jakarta.

According to procedures, Ahmad said, any party who feel that they are disadvantaged by news reporting should file a report to the Press Council.

Previously, Chairawan planned to report Tempo Magazine to the Police's Criminal Investigation Unit before going to the Press Council.

"If they go to the police first, they will automatically get rejected—and then directed to go to the Press Council," Ahmad said.

Tempo has contacted the former Mawar Team commander, but as of the time of this report, there had been no response.
