TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourists from out of town filled up Jakarta's MRT cars on the second day of the Eid al-Fitr, June 6. The train cars are even more packed than during the first day.
"Our field observation revealed that we have additional passengers who wanted to try out the MRT for recreational reasons," PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta corporate secretary Muhamad Kamaluddin said on Friday, June 7.
On the first day of Eid, the MRT transported 48,000 people. The peak hours were at noon and the afternoon.
On the second day of Eid, the number of passengers surged to more than 83,000.
During the Eid holidays, the MRT only runs seven units of trains, which is half the number they have on normal days. The company also cuts back on the number of trips per day from 285 to 219. Headways, on the other hand, are extended from 5 minutes to 10 minutes. There is no change to the MRT's operating hours, which is 05:00 to 00:00 Jakarta time.
