AHY Attends Megawati Open House, Relationship Improves

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Political observer from the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Adi Prayitno, asserted that the move done by Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) and Edhi Baskoro Yudhoyno (Ibas) to attend the open house vent of Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarno Putri was a brave decision. Both son of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) visited Megawati after attending President Joko Widodo open house event at the Presidential Palace.
Adi said that the move marks a new chapter in the relationship between Susilo Bambang yudhoyono and Megawati.
"The presence of AHY and Ibas at President Jokowi and Megawati open house marks a new chapter of the relationship between SBY family and the government," Adi said when contacted by Tempo on Thursday, June 6, 2019.
Adi said that the developing situation is good to improve the political condition and security, which previously tense following the announcement of the 2019 Presidential Election result. Moreover, the Democrat Party was part of the Indonesia Makmur Coalition, which act as the opposing power of the incumbent candidate.
"At least the Democrat party, which was part of [the opposition] accepts all process and results," Adi said.
Previously, SBY and Megawati is known for standing on opposite sides. Since he 2004 and the 2009 election, SBY always have to face Megawati as his opponent. During the 2014 Presidential Election, the Democrat Party decided to remain neutral. Back then, PDIP was the main supporter or Joko Widodo, who later won the election.
Adi said that the improvement in the relationship between the two political family started when SBY’s wife, Ani Yudhoyno, suffered from blood cancer on February 2019. President Joko Widodo and his son Kaesang Pangarep, came to Singapore to visit Ani.
Despite the recent unfortunate passing of Ani Yuhdoyono, the relationship between the families continue to improve. This was marked by the presence of Megawati during Ani Yudhoyono’s funeral in Kalibata, South Jakarta.
