TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution is optimistic economic growth in the second quarter will surpass the previous quarter’s. Darmin augured economic growth in the second quarter would be in the neighborhood of 5.2 percent.
“It is difficult [to say the figure]. But I hope economic growth in the second quarter will be around 5.2 percent,” Darmin told journalists at his official residence on Jl. Widya Chandra III, South Jakarta, Wednesday, June 5, 2019.
Earlier, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said economic growth in the first quarter was 5.07 percent and predicted the second quarter’s would hover around 5.1 percent.

The stagnant growth is attributable to high airfares that hindered people’s mobility and expansion of the tourism sector—in addition to lower exports, slower global economy, and the US-China trade war.
However, Darmin said the Eid and the Lebaran momentum was predicted to push economic growth to 5.2 percent in the second quarter. This, according to him, was in line with the stable macro-economy coupled with robust domestic demand.
