TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi conducted an impromptu visit to Senen Station in Jakarta, Friday, May 31 to directly monitor the traffic flow of this year’s Eid homecoming exodus or mudik.
Upon his arrival at the train station at 4 p.m., the president greeted people willing to return to their hometowns.
The homecomers, who were waiting for their trains, enthusiastically welcomed the president as they tried to shake hands and take a photo with the former Solo mayor.
Jokowi then went to lane 3 of the train platform where KA Brantas for Pasar Senen-Blitar, East Java route was available.

“We’d like to check [the situation], and it turns out to be normal. The station is full but not as crowded as I thought,” said the president.
State-run railway operator PT KAI, he added, was ready to cater to thousands of homecomers traveling to their hometowns. According to him, the total number of homecomers in this year’s Eid jumped by 4 percent than that of last year. “I think it’s a normal increase,” he said.
Jokowi then asked homecomers to maintain vigilance and caution during their trips. “Let us celebrate Eid, gather with all families and relatives. Return to Jakarta, and get back to work,” he concluded.
