TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan today sent-off the 17,427 residents who are taking part in the free homecoming program. They left Jakarta from Monas this morning, May 30.
The homecomers left Jakarta using 354 buses heading to ten cities and regencies across Java.
"Thank God, we have sent off the homecomers today. There were more than 17,000 people going to their hometowns, riding in more than 300 buses," Anis said on Thursday, May 30.
The free homecoming program, the governor said, is the first to be held by the capital's administration, with the goal of helping Jakarta dwellers who want to spent the holiday with their families back home.
He added that the program is also expected to curb road traffic jams during the homecoming season.
The free homecoming program also helps people planning to bring motorcycles to their hometowns.
"We have transported 754 units of motorcycles yesterday," said Sigit Widjatmoko, acting chief of the Transportation Office.
