May 22 Riot Disturbs Small, Medium Investments, BKPM Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) said that the May 22 rally, which ended up with riots, has affected direct investment. BKPM deputy for investment cooperation Wisnu Wijaya Soedibjo said that small and medium-sized investors would likely be affected by what happened.
"There is a possibility that some small and medium-sized investors will delay their plans," Wisnu told Bisnis Indonesia, Sunday, May 26.

On May 21 and 22, mass demonstrations in front of the Election Supervisory Body Building ended in chaos. The crowd rallied in protests of fraud allegations during in the 2019 presidential elections.
Although the demonstration ended in chaos, Wisnu was convinced that this would not cancel investors' plans in Indonesia—particularly major investments and projects that have fixed schedules.
In Q1/2019, the BKPM recorded that the value of actuated investments reached Rp195.1 trillion, up 5.3 percent compared to the first quarter of 2018.
