TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Third Indonesian president B.J. Habibie held a meeting with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at the Merdeka Palace today. The meeting lasted for about 75 minutes.

After the meeting, Habibie told journalists that he arrived at the palace to congratulate Jokowi on the latter's victory in the presidential race based on the final tally released by the General Elections Commission (KPU).

“I came here to congratulate the president. To say that the people have decided in order to let [Jokowi] continue his work for the sake of sustainability and future generations,” said Habibie today, May 24.

The former president reminded that whoever officially named as president for 2019-2024 must remember to be the president for each and every Indonesian.

“Why waste time and money, and the risks are high, to only fight for the interest of one person, a certain group, no way,” said Habibie.

Moreover, Habibie and Jokowi agreed to continue the national equity program besides maintaining Indonesia’s unity. “There is no bargaining this, it’s a must,” said Habibie.
