Police Hospital: 4 Died from Gunshot in May 22 Riot

24 May 2019 06:34 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Kramat Jati National Police Hospital brought in four bodies died in May 22 riot as of Thursday, May 23. The hospital head Brig. Gen. Dr. Musyafak said that his side conducted an autopsy on the four victims and that the death caused by gunshot.

“We have run autopsy as requested by investigators and permitted by the victims’ family. [The victims] indeed died from gunshot wounds,” said Musyafak in the Bhayangkara Police Hospital, Thursday, May 23.

However, he stopped short of detailing the kind of bullets used, lethal ammunition or rubber ones. “We cannot say it’s rubber or lethal ammo, but the evidence has been taken to the police laboratory and forensics (Puslabfor),” Musyafak added.

He mentioned that two victims were brought in from Pelni Hospital, one from Mintohardjo Hospital.

A deadly riot broke following a rally against the election results in front of the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) office on Tuesday, May 21, at around 22:30 Jakarta time. The mass had initially dispersed and left the location.

But at around 03:00 on May 22, a group of people forced to enter Police Brimob dormitory in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. They allegedly destroyed and fired parked vehicles. At least 11 cars and a number of motorbikes were burnt.

The police then hunted rioters, and the clash began in Petamburan area. Six people were reportedly died, while hundreds of people sustained injuries.
