TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono, said that the riots around the Brimob (Mobile Police Brigade) Dormitory building, Central Jakarta began when a group of people tried to enter the Bawaslu office by force on Tuesday night at around 23:00 WIB (Western Indonesia Time).
"And then the TNI (National Armed Forces) and the Polri (National Police) came to secure the situation. We drove away the masses to Tanah Abang so they could be disbanded," Argo said around the Pelni Hospital, Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

Not long after, Argo further said, there were reports of cars being set on fire near the Brimob Dormitory building on Jalan KS Tubun, Petamburan, Central Jakarta. After being checked, it was true that there were at least 11 cars being burned by the mob.
According to Argo, the police are now investigating whether the clashing masses were protesters at the Bawaslu office on Tuesday or not. "And is this a mass from outside Jakarta or from inside Jakarta," he said.
Currently, the road around the Brimob dormitory, precisely on Jalan KS Tubun, is still closed. A group of mobs and police officers are still on standby at the location.
