TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has set the highest security alert (Siaga 1) upon securing Jakarta in the wake of the May 22 rally.
The rally is a protest by several groups upon the naming of the recent presidential election winner.
According to police, the Siaga 1 status is effective from today on May 21 up to Saturday, May 25, 2019.
“The Siaga 1 alert status was set following terror threats and to anticipate the rally’s protesters from growing too large,” said Polri Head of Public Relations Division Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo to journalists today, May 21.
However, Dedi said that the circular via telegram from Police Chief General Tito Karnavian is meant for police’s internal circle, announcing it will mobilize two-thirds of its force and increase security exponentially.
Dedi further reminded the public that there will be nothing to worry about and suggest people to conduct their usual daily routines despite the May 22 protest.
