TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Jakarta Police are set to involve counterterrorism special squad Densus 88 in the questioning of a pilot nabbed over a social media post that allegedly contained hate speech and elements of radicalism.

“We will coordinate this with Densus 88 on whether [the pilot] has tendencies towards radicalism,” said West Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Hengki Haryadi on Monday, May 20.

The police explained that the pilot, identified as “IR”, posted a statement on his Facebook account that inclined to showing fundamental radicalism akin to those of a jihadist. One of which, the police revealed, was a sentence stating that the suspect “could already smell the fragrance of heaven.”

Hengki said the police feared the post that went viral on social media accelerated into a doctrin and stirred chaos on the field. The post was also relative to the planned demonstration on May 22 against the announcement of the election results by the General Elections Commission (KPU).

IR was arrested on Saturday night May 18, 2019, in Surabaya, East Java. He was immediately apprehended allowing for the risks he might pose as a pilot.

“The person involved is a pilot, so this must be taken into account. What if he changes his mind while piloting an airplane,” Hengki said.
