TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) Chairman Erick Thohir announced that the Indonesian government is serious in hosting the 2032 Summer Olympics after Vice President Jusuf Kalla briefly met with Thomas Bach at the International Olympic Commission (IOC) in Laussane.
The meeting was held by Jusuf Kalla after attending the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) 2019 in Geneva, Swiss.
Previously on February 11, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo handed an official letter of candidacy to Thomas Bach.
“Following the official letter, this time, the Indonesian government through VP Jusuf Kalla held an official visit to the IOC to meet Thomas Bach and express our seriousness in hosting the 2032 Olympic,” said Erick Thohir in a written statement on Thursday, May 16.
The final decision will only be made after the IOC assembly in 2024.
Erick said that Indonesia’s image continues to grow among the international community following positive feedback from hosting the 2018 Asian Games. After a positive response from Thomas Bach, says Erick, he explains that Indonesia would need to prepare a bidding proposal and increase the number of international events.
