TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police believe that there will be no public riot during the announcement of the vote recapitulation of the 2019 presidential election to be held by Election Commission (KPU) on May 22.
“Based on the observation result carried out by intelligence in the field, there’s no potential riot. No indication lead to the issue,” said National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo in his office, South Jakarta, Thursday, May 16.
However, Dedi added, social media is currently driving public opinion towards an uproar, contrasting to the real situation.
Dedi explained that cyber police team will continuously patrol social networking sites until May 22 in a bid to diminish negative contents and will take stern action against the content creators and spreaders who constantly repeat the work after a warning issued.
Additionally, the Police collaborate with Communication and Informatics Ministry to take down accounts spreading hoaxes, provocative speech, and agitation. Dedi stopped short of detailing the number of social media account that had been blocked thus far.
He went on to say that a total of 32,000 personnel of Indonesian Military Force (TNI) and National Police will be dispatched on the announcement day to deal with a potential mass riot. Moreover, the security measure will kick off since May 20, 2019.
