TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Legal expert Yusril Ihza Mahendra says the persistence of Prabowo Subianto’s campaign team in rejecting the results of the election and their unwillingness to file any Constitutional Court lawsuits will not delegitimize the upcoming elected president.
“It will be legitimate once named by the General Election Commission (KPU), moreover if it’s decided by the Constitutional Court,” said Yusril in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Yusril argues that Prabowo’s attempts will be utterly useless they only continue to announce their claims of an election victory. “Claiming to win the election to become the president but is not inaugurated by the MPR, that would be useless.”

He argues that the people who accuse the election to be rigged must be the ones to prove that it does in fact exist. “Other people shouldn’t refute that, we must prove such frauds,” says Yusril who says that would adhere to legal principles.
As of the call for people power by Amien Rais, Yusril Ihza said that the world’s history for revolution or people power still revolves around the constitutional process. “In a country’s internal revolution, people power is only a way to demand change,” but once that change happens, it would still have to pass through a constitutionally-approved process such as Indonesia’s 1998 ‘reformasi’ phase.
