Thousands of Police to Guard Indonesia Election Announcement

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -The Indonesian police will mobilize 32,000 personnel for the Indonesia election result announcement on May 22. Prioritized locations include the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) and the General Election Commission (KPU).
“The focus will be at KPU and Bawaslu, others will be stationed at national vital objects,” said Indonesian National Police Spokesman Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo at the police headquarters on Wednesday.

The personnel on guard, he says, is to overcome threats ahead of the announcement. Police are mostly worried about the possibility of acts of terror taking place and is why several terrorist members in Lampung and Bekasi under the banner of Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) that have been apprehended.
Police also confiscated an explosive device that would have been used during the announcement of a new president. “There is one more alleged suspect that police are hunting down,” he said.
