TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police reveal the reason Hermawan Susanto posed threat to behead President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo mentioned during a rally in front of the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) headquarter last Friday.
The 25-year-old man told the police during the investigation on Tuesday evening, May 14, that he was in a very emotional state while delivering the death threat.
“So the motive is HS was emotional while delivering the words,” said Jakarta Metro Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono in his office, Wednesday, May 15.
Argo said that the police investigators did not blindly accept the suspect’s claim. The police would examine the expert witness to analyze Hermawan’s behavior when threatening the President through the viral video footage.
“An expert witness will study the duration time he (HS) made the threat, how he followed the camera, and others,” Argo said.
Hermawan Susanto attracted public spotlight after his threat against President Jokowi became viral on social media. The video displayed him in a demonstration in front of the Bawaslu office on Friday, May 10, saying that he was ready to decapitate President’s head.
After the video went viral on the internet, HS and his father fled to Parung, Bogor. He was arrested in his aunt’s house on Sunday morning.
He is still undergoing intensive investigation in Jakarta Metro Police while accompanied by his father.
Hermawan was charged with Article 104 of the Criminal Code concerning a criminal act against the state security and Article 27 (4) in conjunction to Article 45 (1) of Law No. 19/2016 in the amendment of Law No. 11/2008 on the Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE), that carry a maximum punishment of a life or 20 years imprisonment.
