TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Soekarno-Hatta Airport's Health Office (KKP) is increasing supervision and alert over the monkeypox outbreak. KKP Soekarno-Hatta chief Anas Ma'ruf said that the increase in alertness had been carried out since last week.
Anas told Tempo on Tuesday that there are four strategies applied in anticipation of the viral disease's contagion.
First is by increasing supervision at international arrival terminals, especially on passengers from countries that reported cases of monkeypox. This is done by using thermoscanners to detect body temperature and surveillance syndrome. The heat detector body can tell if a passenger has fever, which is one of the symptoms of the virus infection.
"We use Thermoscanners at international arrivals terminals," Anas said.

The second step is to distribute health alert cards to passengers from countries with known cases of monkeypox. The third step is to increase information by installing "counseling media" in various digital media equipment at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
"Our officers were given additional material to better understand the monkey pox virus, because many don't know it yet," Anas said.
Lastly, the KKP issued circulars to the parties concerned, asking them to also raise increase awareness about the disease.
According to the WHO report and the Indonesian Health Ministry, the monkeypox virus was first found in African nations such as Congo and Nigeria.
