TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan seeks to inaugurate and commercially operate the much-anticipated LRT Jakarta before the end of Ramadan, i.e. in the early days of June 2019.
“Hopefully it can be completed quickly, we are in talks. I personally expect it to be done before Ramadan’s Eid al Fitr day,” said Anies in South Jakarta today.
Anies explained that the official introduction of the LRT Jakarta only waited for the completion of administrative requirements that it had yet to obtain.
The requirements include technical recommendations from the Jakarta Transportation Agency, an assignment letter from PT Jakpro, business permits, infrastructure, and physical building permits.
Once all of the requirements are met, the next step will be to produce a cooperation agreement between PT LRT Jakarta and the Jakarta administration.

“These little aspects seem insignificant but they bear major consequences for city order,” said the governor.
To date, the LRT Jakarta boasts a track spanning 5.8 kilometers from Rawamangun in East Jakarta up to Kelapa Gading in North Jakarta. The city’s first light rapid transit completed its official test run involving members of the public on April 2019.
PT LRT Jakarta president director Allan Tandiono was upbeat the LRT, once commercially operated, would be able to accommodate 14,255 passengers daily with the assistance of integrated transportations, such as Jak Lingko, which would act as feeder transports for LRT passengers.
