Wiranto: Not National Legal Team, but Legal Aid

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Politics, Legal, and Security Wiranto clarified his plan to establish a national legal team tasked to study words, actions, and ideologies of public figures.
The former Indonesian Military (TNI) commander asserted that what he meant about the team was not a national team, but a legal aid to help coordination measures of his ministry.
“This team will assist the Coordinating Ministry to synchronize, harmonize, and handle legal and national security issues,” he said in a written statement, Tuesday, May 7.

He explained that he had met professors and doctors from a number of Indonesian universities who feel empathy for the government’s duties and care for the country’s fate. The team, he added, was not formed to replace the other, but help the ministry to study and define activities against the law.
“So we need this team because it’s tasked to assess from the community to the community, this is actually from the people,” he noted.
Earlier, the Coordinating Minister exposed his plan to form a special team after a limited coordinating meeting wherein discussing issues brought up after the 2019 general elections in his office, Central Jakarta, Monday, May 6.
Wiranto stated clearly that the government intended to generate a national legal team to prevent efforts to delegitimize the general elections and the results.
