TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The University of Indonesia (UI) declared that the institutions and faculty are not involved in the 'UI Moves' demonstration. The statement came in response to a planned protest against the KPU and the Bawaslu by a group of people claiming to act on behalf of the university's alumni.
"We are making it clear that the activity is unrelated to UI in any institutional capacity, and therefore [these people] have no right to act on behalf of UI," UI spokesman Gandjar Leksmana said in a written statement on Monday, May 6 2019.
Over the past week, there have been calls for demonstrations claimed by people claiming to act on behalf of UI Alumni—consisting of US-UI, Rising, UI Solutions, and Kalam UI. The group plans to hold a demonstration to the General Election Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) today, May 7, at 14:30.

The group plans to protest the KPU's Vote Count Information System (Situng) and demand an investigation over the death of several KPPS officers while on duty.
Gandjar said UI does not prohibit anyone from staging or joining demonstrations. But the University "prohibits the unauthorized use of campus symbols in any activity," he told Tempo on Tuesday.
Any violation on the use of the university's name and symbols will be prosecuted by law, which the faculty plans to do. In its announcement, UI also called for faculty members, students and alumni of all educational institutions to maintain the neutrality, and unattached to all forms of practical politics.
Gandjar added that UI will not be held account for what happens during the protest. "We feel that there is no need to conduct specific monitoring," he remarked.
