TEMPO.CO, Palembang - Thirty people who were detained at the Palembang Resort Police station escaped on Sunday morning, May 5. They are suspected to have fled at around 2:00 a.m. after breaking the air ventilation railings.
"We have formed a team to hunt them down," South Sumatra Regional Police Chief, Insp. Gen. Zulkarnain Adinegara, said yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Palembang Resort Police's Service Center chief, Second Insp. Herison, said that all of the escaped detainees were involved in drug-related cases. He received reports about the break-out at around 3:00 a.m.
According to Herison, there were two on-duty officers guarding the detention room. At around 2:50 a.m. a detainee who did not run away with the others told them about the break-out. The officers checked and see the cells were already empty, and found a wooden block they believed was used to escape.
