TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Ministry will apply the odd-even license plate and one-way traffic policy during this year’s Eid homecoming season along Trans Java Toll road. The decision is taken in a bid to ease the traffic.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi explained the concept was prepared to ensure convenient and smooth travel for the public. This was because the newly-built toll connecting Jakarta-Surabaya was predicted to attract people using their private vehicles for the homecoming. So, specific traffic management must be set to prevent vehicle density.

“President mandates us to assure this year’s mass exodus will run better than the previous year. So we’re collaborating with regional administrations, national police, regional police, and related institutions to set two traffic management strategies; one-way traffic and odd-even policy,” said Budi Karya via a written statement in Jakarta, Sunday, May 5.

However, Budi added, he will finalize which traffic management to be applied later. “I believe Traffic Corps will implement it well.”

Budi went on to say that the relocation of Cikarang tollgate had been exercised to prevent congestion. However, other strategies such as odd-even policy must be applied in response to the public expectation in trying the new Trans Java toll road.

“So I ask people to understand that this decision is not taken carelessly. We do all [traffic engineerings] so people can travel conveniently and smoothly,” Budi said.
