TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regretted the arrest of a judge at Balikpapan Court, Kayat, in a sting operation on Friday, May 3.
"KPK is upset with the law enforcement apparatus, especially a judge who committed corruption crime," KPK deputy chief Laode M. Syarif stated at his office in South Jakarta, Saturday, May 4, saying that it was a terrible thing done by a judge.
The anti-graft agency suspected that Judge Kayat promised to free the defendant from charges of a letter forgery case at Balikpapan Court for Rp500 million. Kayat received the bribe from Sudarman through his attorney, Jhonson Siburian.
KPK named three persons as suspects; KYT (Kayat), SDM (Sudarman) and JHS (Jhonson Siburian), at the sting operation on Friday, May 3, in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.
From the sting operation, the anti-graft body seized Rp99 million put inside a black plastic bag, Rp28.5 million from Kayat's bag, and Rp100 million in Rp100,000 bill from Jhonson's office.
KPK, therefore, asked the Supreme Court (MA) to seriously conduct internal and external revision in order to take firm action against all violations, especially to its judges and other related parties.
"KPK will help MA to execute the revision as an effort to maintain our court institutions from corruption virus," Laode remarked.
