Anies Baswedan on Ahok's Comment about Jakarta's Floods

2 May 2019 14:03 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan promised to check the numerous water pumps stationed across the Capital City after it was mentioned by former Jakarta Governor Basuki “BTP” Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok.

“We will check [the water pumps] too,” said governor Anies during the national education day celebration at Monas, Central Jakarta, today, May 2.

“The point is we appreciate the attention and hopefully, everything that is mentioned as technical issues will always be anticipated by the team,” said the Governor.

According to Anies, the flood water pumps are mostly stationed in Central and North Jakarta, which contradicts the current flood events that happened mostly at the city’s east and south areas.

Anies responded to Ahok’s comments on Jakarta’s flood issues, which he said has been handled pretty well with the pumps and embankments. However, Ahok noted that the water pumps’ filters would easily be jammed by debris if there is no heavy machinery put on standby beside the water pumps to pick up the trashes.
