President Jokowi Voices Hope in May Day Commemoration

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo pinned hope events held on May 1, 2019, to commemorate the Labor Day or May Day will run conducive.
“We hope tomorrow on May Day will be running well with joyful and conducive,” said the President after inspecting PT KMK Global Sports I in Cikupa, Tangerang, Banten, Tuesday, April 30.
According to him, laborers must be able to enhance their productivity through reskilling and upskilling. “So if they are productive, companies will be able to raise their salary because productivity is related to the amount of the production result,” Jokowi said.
To celebrate the Labor Day, the Confederation of Indonesian Workers Unions (KSPI) will hold an event at Tennis Indoor Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, starting 10:00 Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The union said it will mobilize 50,000 people from Jakarta, West Java, and Banten.
The KSPI planned to voice their seven demands on May Day; rejecting low wages, urging elimination of outsourcing system, urging the benefit health and pension assurance, urging the electricity basic tariff (TDL) and lower price of staple foods, demanding salary hike for teachers, honorary workers, and online ojek (motorcycle taxi) drivers, as well as demanding the government uphold fair democracy in the 2019 presidential election.
