TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan expressed his hopes on seeing the entire Transjakarta bus fleet shift to an electric bus, replacing the current ones powered by internal combustion engines (ICE) for the sake of the environment.
“This is a part of a drastic change that we need to do together and make sure that we are able to inherit the next generation exceptional quality of [Jakarta’s] air, water, and land,” said Anies at Jakarta’s City Hall on Monday, April 29.

Despite his wishes, he has yet set a schedule on when the massive shift to electric powered bus fleets would take place. Anies said it depends on the planning projection of PT Transjakarta in the future.
The transition, the governor said, will be done by announcing three electric Transjakarta busses that will be operational starting today. The electric buses will only serve passengers in the vicinity of Monas in Central Jakarta while the city waits for the units’ administrative requirements to be completely fulfilled in June or July.
He also plans on adding the electric Transjakarta to ten busses; “We’ll start with 10 units while we prepare the projection on using an all-electric Transjakarta fleet.”
